Website Copy for a Bold, Brave New Social Work Center

We recently partnered with Baltimore-based consulting firm Pulse Forward to create copy for a new website for the Center for Restorative Change. Formerly the Social Work Community Outreach Service at the University of Baltimore School of Social Work, the Center rebranded with a bold and brave new approach with Pulse Forward’s strategic help.

After several years of working with the Center on design and brand strategy,  Pulse Forward brought us in to work with the Center in an inclusive, all-staff process to reflect their connectedness in writing the final website copy. We interviewed dozens of students and faculty at the school over several months. We managed copywriting and rounds of edits and approval to showcase the Center’s strengths:

  • Viewing clients as fully capable equals and nurturing relationships where all parties engage in mutual learning.

  • Encouraging people to become self-advocates and mobilize for change in the systems that impact their lives.

  • Incorporating concepts around anti-oppression, anti-racism, and restorative justice into the Center’s culture and practices to be transformative.

  • Being clear about what the Center stands for because staff work continually to gain clarity.

Our role was to represent all this on the website while sharing the critical information about each program needed to convey the experience at the Center for clients, students, and the community.

Through intimate and thoughtful conversations with students, recent graduates, and staff, we were able to reflect the organization’s clarity and fearlessness in its web copy. All of our interactions reflected the trust and value-centered relationships that CRC builds in their community relationships.

Gayle Carney, Director of Strategy at Pulse Forward, said: “Working with Ellen and Matt helped us bring out the special sauce in the work of the Center for Restorative Change. They got us, and what we were trying to do, and it was not simple. They managed a lot of stakeholder interviews in a sensitive and considerate way.  They listened, were organized, responsive, and a pleasure to work with as we delivered the new website for the center. I’d recommend them to work with on any complex copy or content needs.”
