IGNITE – America’s largest, most diverse young women’s political empowerment organization

There’s a myth that Gen Z is apathetic about politics. But this is far from true–at IGNITE, young women are showing up to lead. They are rising across the nation, to make their voices heard, as they set out on their unique journey toward political engagement and leadership.

We worked with IGNITE over three months to write the copy for an interactive annual report website and teaser copy. Working closely with senior leaders including the Chief Executive, Chief Development Officer, Chief Marketing and Communications Officer and other diverse staff, we identified which stories to tell and worked with Gen Z women across the country to showcase their political leadership. Our copy served as the basis for a designer to produce a compelling and engaging interactive website teeming with popping imagery and engaging impact statistics and stories. It was a pleasure working with IGNITE on this important project as America turns the corner into the 2024 election year. 

Case study stories for the report included passage of California law by IGNITE’s UCLA college chapter mandating public colleges to pay for safe transportation to rape crisis centers; interviews with a first-generation Bengali-and-Muslim-American woman who won election to the Minneapolis City Council; and with a young woman who is now serving as the youngest board member on the Environmental Commission in Lincolnwood, Illinois. 

Young Black and brown women are the future of the political system. Working with IGNITE on this project gave us a great deal of optimism about America’s political future when many are feeling cynical and disengaged. In 2022’s midterm elections, 96% of IGNITE participants voted. And 16% plan to run for office. By telling these gen Z women’s stories of political power, we were able to further facilitate it as it unfolds across the country.
